To help hardware development teams visualize the MAHD Framework, we have developed this step-by-step guide to Agile for Hardware, which consists of nine articles to show how agile methods and tools can be used for physical products. We include who should be involved, the outcomes for each step and how to overcome challenges. We hope you’ll join us on this journey as JavaBrew uses the MAHD Framework to develop an innovative new coffee maker. This step starts with the product concept as Lynda, the product manager, prepares for agile project success by writing user stories and developing an agile product brief.
This step gathers the team to understand the product and kick off the agile project. The team has many questions and concerns. Will they get resolved?
This critical step pulls the plan together with major milestones, prototypes, dependencies and project timing. This step is a unique, but necessary departure from agile for software.
Step 4 focuses on preparing the backlog to begin execution. For hardware the backlog represents a wide range of tasks not found in software projects… and typically few user stories.
In Step 5, the team plans their first sprint and prepares to execute important tasks. But the questions already start flying. Is this the right product? Do we need “this” feature? Can agile help?
The team completed their first sprint and flaws in their agile process have surfaced… Lynda failed to complete a critical task putting the whole project at risk. Can they get back on track?
In Step 7, JavaBrew reviews their first iteration… a major milestone! But many questions remain. Even major features decisions. Is this normal for an agile team? Join us to find out.
The JavaBrew team is nearing their launch. Unfortunately, they have have a major design problem! Can they use agile techniques to get back on track?
In our final step, JavaBrew completes their coffee maker and takes a look back to conduct a full audit of their agile experience. What’s next for the JavaBrew team? Download our final step to find out!
